Peachey is awarded the Glenn Kaminsky Award for Excellence

At the 20th annual conference of NAFTO, the Executive Board awarded Willis Peachey, our Executive Director, the Glenn Kaminsky Award. At the dinner banquet, Peachey was completely taken aback in being chosen for this award. From the podium of the venue, he announced that he was retiring from NAFTO, effective December 31, 2011 and stated sincere appreciation for this award. In addition, the Executive Board also announced a $1,000 gift to Peachey in order to say “Thanks” in a tangible way. Peachey declined to accept the cash personally and announced that he was going to donate it the National Law Enforcement Memorial project.

The Glenn Kaminsky Award is the highest honor bestowed on an individual from NAFTO. As noted on our website, the Kaminsky Award is given to a person who meets the following criteria:

The Glenn Kaminsky Award for Excellence is designed to recognize those individuals who have dedicated their professional careers and in some cases their personal lives to advance Field Training. This is not an annual award and is intended to showcase the people who have held the highest ethical and moral standards; provided leadership and direction in field training; and have dedicated themselves to the highest ideals of NAFTO.

This award is named after it’s first and only recipient, Glenn Kaminsky, commonly known as the Father of the San Jose program, and was instituted in 2007.

The Executive Board approved awarding Peachey this award because of his sincere and dedicated devotion in field training. His leadership in NAFTO is insightful and innovative. The Board noted that the past few years have been difficult in transition of Executive Directors. Peachey worked tirelessly, without remuneration, and is credited with almost singlehandedly restoring NAFTO to a state of high integrity and ethics. His policy of transparency in the organization has renewed the membership’s confidence. It is with great pride and gratitude that the Executive Board unanimously decided on this course of action to honor Peachey.
