A Word From Our President

My name is Kimber Williams and I would like to introduce myself as your President for the 2011/2012 term.  I studied at Sonoma State University with a double major in Business Administration and Criminal Justice.  Currently, I am a Sergeant with the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office – Detention Division.  I have been employed by the SCSO for 24 years, 19 of these years as a Sergeant.  I have been in charge of several critical programs in the Detention Division to include the Specialized Emergency Response Team (SERT), Defensive Tactics Team, 3 tours as the FTO Sergeant and I was also assigned to our Internal Affairs unit.

While I attended several National Conferences in the past, I became involved with NAFTO in the summer of 2007 when I was asked by Peachey to consider forming a State Chapter in California.  As it turned out, NAFTO had begun 20 years ago in California but the State Chapter dissolved a number of years back.  In August of 2008, California once again had a State Chapter up and running with a fully seated Executive Board.  During the NAFTO National Conference in 2009, I was elected to a position on NAFTO’s Executive Board.  I have had the pleasure of working with some great NAFTO Board Members in the past and I am even more excited about this year’s NAFTO Executive Board.

NAFTO’s membership continues to build but we still have a long way to go and that requires the assistance from each member.  I challenge each member to go out and recruit just one new member and by the 2012 Conference we can easily double our membership.  NAFTO is a Non Profit Organization and membership dues are what allows your Executive Board to host the quality conferences that you are accustomed to attending.

Goals for the 2011/2012 year include: attending the 2011 International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference (as a vendor promoting what NAFTO has to offer), development of an FTO Assessment Program, development of FTO Training Programs for Law Enforcement, Corrections and Communications (to be taught throughout North America) and to advance the training opportunities for the 2012 Annual Conference.

I would like to close by thanking each of you for your continued support with NAFTO. You have a very dynamic Executive Board who is here to serve you.  If you have any questions, comments and/or suggestions regarding NAFTO please feel free to contact myself or any of the Executive Board Members.  Our commitment is to each of you and the overall betterment of NAFTO.

Please check the web site frequently for updated information and if you have any training articles please forward the information to me or Steve Kellams (NAFTO’s Web Master).
